McKinnon: Joan Elizabeth (nee Cooper)
Joan McKinnon, 77, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2016 at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario with her family by her side. Born in Glace Bay, N.S. she was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and Augustus (Gus) Cooper. Beloved wife of the late Thomas “Nails” McKinnon. Loving mother of Allie (Aysha) McKinnon of Calgary and Paula (Imre) Schmidt of London. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren Cole and Mitchel with whom she loved playing cards and bowling. She is survived by her brother Wayne (Yvonne) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Marie McIntyre. Joan worked at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay for many years. In her leisure time she loved playing bingo, cards and darts at the Hub Club in Glace Bay and watching baseball and her favorite team, Toronto Blue Jays! The family would like to give a special thank you to David and Carrie for their love and support during Joan’s time of need and the Critical Care Trauma Unit at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario. A Celebration in Glace Bay will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations to the Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
