Obituary of Peter John Cunningham

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CUNNINGHAM: PETER JOHN In his 75th year, peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, February 13, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family. Best friend, companion, lover, and husband of Bette for 53 years. Peter was the proud father of Sharon (predeceased 1990) and Mark, as well as chosen daughter Lisa Fewster (Warren). Special Grandpa to Elisha Hubley and Dallas Fewster. Also survived by his sister Peggy of Bayfield. Thanks go out to Peter’s mother, Mildred (predeceased 1962), the steadying force in his early years, for producing such an incredibly fine and kind gentleman. Born and raised in London EOA Peter went to Lorne Ave Public School and H.B. Beal Secondary School. In the 1960’s Peter was a leader with the 41st Cub Pack at Redeemer Anglican Church and will be remembered by many ex cubs as Bagheera. He loved weekend camping at both Camp Sylvan and especially Spencer Park where he met the love of his life. Peter retired from A&P Grocery stores after 35 years of service, 20 of which were in management at various locations, taking retirement from Head Office Health and Safety. His love of fishing started at a young age in the Lake Huron regions and continued throughout his life to include fly-in trips with his father-in-law and charters out of Pt Credit. He loved making memories with his grandchildren and delighted in their achievements, whether it was bike riding, ice skating, birding, or swimming. He especially loved introducing them to the joys of fishing. His connection to nature showed whenever he puttered in the garden or went birdwatching with son Mark at Pt. Pelee. An avid Crokinole player since childhood Peter was a founding member of the London Crokinole Club, participating in several tournaments. In retirement Peter loved to travel, enjoying trips to Hawaii, England, Holland, as well as a most memorable trip to Alaska. He loved life and he loved his family. Peter enjoyed worship at St. James Westminster Anglican Church where he shared fellowship with many close friends. He will be remembered and missed by his many nieces and nephews. Many thanks go out to the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice, CCAC, Dr. Sarah Kuravilla and Dr. Robin Shearer and so many others who made Peter’s journey easier. Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation at St. James Westminster Anglican Church, 115 Askin Street, in the Westminster Lounge, on Friday, February 24th, 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James on Saturday, February 25th, 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Keith Fleming officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Peter are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice or the London Regional Cancer Centre. A private interment will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.affordablefuneraloptions.ca .
