Ivan Kovac

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our father, Ivan Kovac.

Born Nov 22, 1927 in Mirna, Slovenia, Ivan passed away peacefully on Nov 19, 2020 in London, Ontario at the Dearness Home.

He is survived by his wife Ann, his children Anne Dwyer (Jim), Frank Kovac (Mary Frances), and Steve Kovac.  Stari Ati to his grandchildren Mike and Dan Dwyer, Lisa and Katherine Kovac, Darren and Sean Kovac.  Brother to Ana Dobravec and Marinka Vesel of Slovenia.  Father to Janez Gregorcic of Slovenia.  Uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada and Slovenia.  Predeceased by his parents Ana and Franc, his brothers Franc, Lado and Marjan.

Ivan grew up on a farm in Slovenia (part of former Yugoslavia) helping his family with their vineyards.  When World War 2 broke out, he fought with his brothers and countrymen against the Axis forces.  In 1957, he left Slovenia to work in Austria.  In 1958, he met and married his wife Ann.  Together they traveled to Canada, arriving on Apr 14, 1958.  They briefly settled in St. Catharines, Ontario before permanently moving to London, Ontario.  He worked for Camco (General Steel Wares) for 23 years before retiring in 1987.

According to Ivan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Due to Covid19, a private memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Peter’s Mausoleum.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Royalcliffe Retirement Residence for all their caring and support of Ivan during his time with them.  Also we would like to thank the PSW’s from LHIN, especially Maria, for their care and compassion taking care of Ivan for most of 2019.   We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Dearness Home for their special care, kindness and compassion for their attending to Ivan during his time on Birchwalk, especially through the last 9 months during the pandemic.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Ati, we will miss you and love you.  Rest in peace beloved Ati.
