Obituary of Peter Scanlan
In the embrace of his loving wife, Peter Scanlan passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025. With broken hearts, we grieve the loss of beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.
Born in Central Cardiff, Wales, Peter was the eldest brother to eleven siblings. He served in the merchant navy from 1952 to 1963 and later worked as boiler mechanic for over 30 years. In 1960, he married his wife, Margaret and was devoted and loving father to their five children. Peter will be deeply missed by his children: Kevin (Nancy), Ian (the late and beloved April), Anthony (Wendy), David (Susan) and Christy. He left joyful and loving memories to his nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A man of faith, Peter served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s Catholic church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter’s kind heart, generous spirit and humble leadership style gave way to his service in many community groups, from Scout Leader to CUPE Union President. Especially close to his heart were his many years spent volunteering with the Ontario Special Olympics-London.
Peter enjoyed a wonderful retirement life full of family time, travelling, golfing, sailing, camping, gardening and sitting outside soaking up the warmth of the sun. He loved to share the joy of laughter and instilled this gift to his family.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kensington long-term care facilities for their compassion, kindness and tender care of dad.
A funeral will be held on Friday, February 14th at 11:00 at St. Patrick’s Church, London; followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, 311 Oakland Ave. Friends and family are invited to join in sharing their cherished memories and celebrating his life with us.
