Obituary of Bertha Hawke

Hawke, Bertha "Beth" (Vint; née Irwin), age 97 passed away at the Dearness Home, London. Born in Belfast Northern Ireland in 1927, she was the last of her generation. She was predeceased by her siblings Edith, Willy, Sadie, Victor, and Douglas. She became a penpal to a WWII soldier overseas, John Vint (deceased 1971); when he was home on leave they met, and later married. They had five children: John Vint (Paulette); Maureen Lukas; Deb Vint (Roger Houghton); Jeff Vint (Heather). She was predeceased in 2020 by her son Norman Vint (Linda).

She immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her three oldest children, eventually settling in London, Ontario. She became a Nurse's Aide at St. Joseph's Hospital, then was accredited and worked for many years as an ECG Technician until her retirement. She was proud to have collected a pension for longer than she worked! She loved animals, travel, dancing, bowling, but most of all a good sale! With her sister Edie and niece Margaret they scoured the city for deals, with the occasional cross-border foray.

She leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren, and many Irish nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her. If you get the chance, dance! 

A memorial service/celebration of her life will take place Saturday May 31, 2025 from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Saint Andrew Memorial Anglican Church ( https://www.standrewmemorial.org/ ). A private Inurnment will take place at Woodland Cemetery. Donations in her memory, reflecting her love of pets, would be appreciated to the London Humane Society; alternatively, donations could be made to the London Food Bank.
