Obituary of Dorothea Margarete Nerger

Please share a memory of Dorothea to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In Loving Memory of Dorothea Margarete Nerger (nee Heitzmann) With great sadness we announce the passing of Dorothea Margarete Nerger (nee Heitzmann) on April 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Dorle was a loving and beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched the lives of so many with her kindness, strength, and determination.

She will be deeply missed by Heinz, her husband of 66 years, children, Joanie Causarano (Louis), Monika Nerger (Joe) and Hans Nerger (Mary), grandchildren Natalie (Nick), Danielle (James), Adam (Ena) and Bryan (Laura), great-granddaughter Lana, brothers Helmut (Ann) and Werner (Melle), nephews Rick (Diane), Chuck and Brandon, niece Lori, the rest of her family in Canada and Germany, and her friends. Dorle was born and raised in Germany by her mother, Margarete Heitzmann, father, Karl Heitzmann and step-father, Erwin Heitzmann. She came to Canada in 1955, and together with Heinz, worked with determination to build a happy, comfortable life for her husband and children.

On a daily basis, she modeled her belief in never giving up, and was strongest in life’s hardest moments. She had a lifelong commitment to helping others -- especially the underprivileged and those with special needs. She was an exceptional gardener, a skilled knitter, and loved feeding the birds. She enjoyed travelling the world, especially cruising, and spending time in Florida over the winter with Heinz.

A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Living London, https://www.cll.on.ca/, where Dorle worked for many years building and supporting relationships, and advocating for services that enable people with developmental disabilities and their families to live fulfilled lives. The family would like to thank the staff at London’s University Hospital who provided such compassionate care and comfort for Dorle. Online condolences may be left at www.funeraloptions.ca.

May she rest in peace.
