To the Mattingly family, My sincere condolences for your loss. Tom was my teacher and coach in the late 80s early 90s and a friend of my father’s who was also a teacher. It has been many years since high school, but I often thought of him as he had a great impact on me during those years. He was always a gentleman with a firm, but fair hand to the students of athletes. I think this earned him a great deal of respect amongst all students, even those who were often more challenging. He was always a great role model to the male students and he was definitely someone young people could take many life lessons to apply to their own lives as they matured. I am sure his passing will leave a large hole, but he had a positive impact on a lot of people to help carry on his legacy. Scott Cook
