I met Lani in Vancouver ‘81…
She was a very good friend of my sisters, Debra Lee.
I owned a house in E. O. A. London Ont. & I had a party there in the early eighties where my friend Maurice met Lani….
I lost a friend and made a friend.
She had a lot of self control and “never ate anything green..”
I will miss them both greatly!

When I think can Lani I think of her as One of a Kind. She could be very opinionated but in a totally honest way. You never had to guess where she stood. She didn't put up with much BS and you had to respect that straightforwardness.
She loved the people that she loved with everything she had in her and you could see that in the way she took care of my brother at his worst times without hesitation. She was truly an honest caring and loving person.
I got to know her better during her worst time particularly during Maurice's second bout of cancer and his passing, and having to deal with COPD which caused her to have difficulty talking and breathing at the same time.
Even in those final few weeks as friends and relatives rallied around her (of which she had many) to help take care of her, I could see the appreciation in her eyes. She truly appreciated the care even though she often had difficulty saying it out loud.
The gratitude was there.
Lani leaves behind the legacy of uncompromising honesty and fierce loyalty.
And for those who are worried about Mister Happy he is being loved.
Rest in peace.

I have too many memories, and too many stories to tell. It feels like Lani lived a hundred crazy lives. They weren’t all great. But they were hers, and Im happy I got to be there for some of them.
“Bye for now”

I met Lani in Vancouver in the mid 70's through her brother Jim and his girlfriend (now wife) Lila. She was active in the Arts Club Theatre and was hilarious in the play
El Grande De Coca Cola. To be fair the whole cast was hilarious. She also played first base on the Arts Club 'A's softball team. She was fierce at that position and I remember being able to throw the ball as hard as I could and she would calmly catch the ball for the out and toss it to the pitcher. I recall being somewhat stunned at her demeanour. She was a tiny person but had a huge presence wherever she was. Lani had an acute sense of social justice and would always speak her mind if she heard something that didn't seem right. She cared so much about the world and the people in her life. Funny, compassionate, cute, tough, open, fascinated are just a few words that come to mind when I think of her. She had a great laugh. Nice to be around. I know that I'm just one of many people who will miss her, but when we think of her we will have that inner good feeling of having known her.

Around 2000, I got accepted into Fanshawe College (late) but there was an issue, I had nowhere to live in London. Somehow word got out to my cousin Lani and she kindly reached out and told me she’d make space for me at her place on Grey St. for as long as I needed it. Although I ended up staying in the dorm, Lani consistently had me over for dinner (we ate like 12 year old kids haha) and let me do some laundry.
We will never forget get Lani and Mau’s kindness and never ending enthusiasm for life, you are both missed so much.
Love,
Jeremy, Sarah, Marshall and Parker Hogeveen

I don't know if anyone remembers but , there was a commercial for O'Henry chocolate bars with John
Byner as the King of Candy Land and there was a pair of lips running around trying to bite the chocolate bar.It was back in the 70's I think but it was deemed to sexually explicit that it was taken off the air.It was Lani that was the pair of lips.
A talented actress and a wonderful humanitarian
to all creatures great and small and a friend who you could talk to and be there for you if you needed a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. She is already missed by everyone had an opportunity
to know her.She is now on her way to be with Mau,her life partner and love of her life.We will miss you both, but will take comfort knowing that you are together again.
