Obituary of Al Kerr

Please share a memory of Al to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Wesley Albert Kerr, known as Al for most of his life, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2026 in London, Ontario just 6 days after celebrating his 98th birthday.  He was born May 21, 1928 to Arthur and Mabel (Noyes) Kerr in London, Ont.

Al’s life rotated around cars and motorcycles from the time he was an infant.  His father had him on the back of a motorcycle when he was barely walking. This love of wheels drove most everything in his life.  His first job with Coca Cola provided him with the funds to build a race car.  In 1954, at the age of 26, he started racing Supermodified cars, usually the number 3. He raced until 1972 when Delaware made changes to their race track and stopped running the Supermodifieds.  In his 30s he worked for Ontario Hydro but he had a dream to own his own garage so he quit the Hydro and opened up a small Supertest garage/gas station.  In 1969, he sold Supertest and opened up a Shell gas station/garage at the corner of Commissioners and Wonderland. He ran a BP and a Texaco as well in later years until tiring of the business.

In 1978, at the age of 50, when most people are thinking about retirement, Al drove a Hertz truck with all of his belongings across Canada to start up a NAPA store in Leduc, Alberta.  Oil prices were high and Alberta was thriving. The NAPA store thrived also.  Al sold this business a few years later and started up a radiator repair business. He ran this business for a few years.

During this time he met his wife Evelyn.   Al and Evelyn moved back to Ontario in 1987 where they were able to enjoy racing, riding motorcycles, family and friends. Evelyn and Al married in 1993 when Al turned 65.  They were happily married for 33 years…ironically 3 being Al’s magic number.

Al loved a good time and valued friends and family.  We will miss his laugh and his odd sayings that summarized life.  Al is lovingly remembered by his wife Evelyn Kerr, his son Don Kerr (Kathy); his grandchildren Ryan (Lauren) and Kailyn of Mt. Brydges, ON; and his daughter Karen Bromby (Alan) of Cochrane, AB., his step-daughter Karen Roppelt Walrod (George) her 4 children and 3 grandchildren, his step-son Brett Litke, his 2 children and 4 grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his sister Dorothy Macfie (Alex).

A Celebration of Life will be held July 12th from 1:30-4:30 at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2500 Veterans Dr. Mt. Brydges.  In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON).  https://von.ca/en/donation-form
