Obituary of Sir George Herbert Beardshaw

Please share a memory of Sir George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In the early morning of July 11, 2026, Sir George Beardshaw (Dr.)  (Corporal) peacefully passed away in his 103rd year, the way he wished, with his loving family by his side. Predeceased by his wife Emma (Sanderson) and his siblings, Violet, John, Charlie and Mary and niece Elizabeth Sutherland and great nephew Ozzy Beardshaw.  Dear Uncle of Alan and wife MaryAnn Beardshaw, four great nieces and nephews and five great great nieces and nephews and two great, great, great nieces.  He will be missed by his beloved best friend and Goddaughter Judi.

George was born in England in 1923, and came to Canada as one of the British Home Children. He later served in the Canadian Army with The Queen's Own Rifles during the Second World War and endured the final weeks of the war as a prisoner of war.  After the war, he made his home in London, Ontario, where he became a dedicated advocate for British Home Children and Veterans. He was honoured with France's Legion of Honour, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and an Honourary Doctorate of Laws from Wilfrid Laurier University.

His strength, humility and lifelong commitment to remembering history inspired generations. His legacy endures in the many lives he touched and encouraged.

A Service to Celebrate George's Life will be held at 1 pm, on Friday, July 17th at Parkwood Veteran's Care Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations would be appreciated to Parkwood Veteran's Care or Home Child, Canada. Online condolences may be left at www.funeraloptions.ca
