Obituary of Mary Colleen Koziol
Mary Colleen (nee Andruch) Koziol died of old age at Sunrise of Burlington on August 23, 2026 in her 95th year. She was a creative, intelligent, musical, resilient, amusing, complicated, and an irreplaceable woman.
She is survived by daughters Dr. Carol Koziol, Jane (Ken) Arnott, Valarie Koziol (Rick Durst 2017), Ann Marie (Ron) Simone, Andrea Koziol (Thomas Neuspiel), and her sister Josie Reiser. There will be no more “Baba Socks” for her grandchildren Luke Bingleman (Jill Nolan), Brock Batey (Catherine Hughes), Ben (Laura) Arnott, Calvin Arnott (Shane Mono), Erika Pliniussen (Alireza Farhangdoost), Kurtis Alexandre, Kyra Simone (Greg Ford), Teri Simone (Evan Attard), Sacha Neuspiel, Isabella Neuspiel, and her great grandchildren Sophie, Edie, Cameron, and Akito.
Mary is predeceased by John her husband of 55 years (2006), daughter Dr. Natasha Koziol (2013), father Harrasim, stepmother Tatiana, mother Nadejda, uncle Alexander, aunt Olga, aunt Harrepina, uncle Andre, sister Tanya, cousin Olga, infant son Andre.
Mary was born in London, Ontario in 1931. Throughout her rich and active life, she excelled in many different careers: lab tech; university graduate; volunteer; seamstress; substitute teacher; and real estate agent, broker, appraiser, and instructor. She was a talented musician and dancer, and was President of the London International Toastmistress Club. A lifelong learner and creator, Mary was rarely idle. Whether knitting, baking, or sewing, she approached everything with energy, skill, and enthusiasm.
In her end of days, she enjoyed going for walks by the lake, watching birds, eating well (especially soup and good dessert), and joining in playful activities. Most of all she loved hugs, holding hands, and singing loud.
Heartfelt thanks to all of the kind and beautiful hands that cared for Mary at Sunrise.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather in her honour at The Springs Restaurant on Thursday August 27 at 11 am sharp. Lunch to follow. [thespringsrestaurant.com]
