Obituary of Betty Smithyman

Betty Smithyman of London, Ontario passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023.

Betty was born in Essington, England to Harold James and Edith Alice (Evans) Harrison on April 6, 1938. She married Leslie on January 3, 1959. Together they raised 4 children while moving many times. They started their lives together in Essington, moving to Beccles then emigrated to Canada in 1966. In Canada they made many friends everywhere they lived. Montreal, Gravenhurst (ON), Nova Scotia and finally settling in London (ON).

Betty stayed home with her children and then went to work for Acadia University (Wolfville, NS) and retired at Kings College (London,ON), enjoying the students that crossed her path.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Leslie, London, ON; daughters, Hannah (Charles Jordan), New Minas, NS, Julie (Findlay MacRae), Coldbrook, NS, sons; Simon, London, ON, JP (Miranda) London, ON. Grandchildren; Laura (Fisher Akao) New Minas, NS, Erin Jordan-Bartlett, Bedford, NS; Andrew MacRae, Halifax, NS, Calum (Erin) MacRae, Centreville, NS, Jane MacRae, Vancouver, BC; Aaron (Sara) Smithyman, Woodstock, ON, Christopher Smithyman, London, ON; Noah Smithyman, London, ON and Dylan Smithyman, London, ON. Great grandchildren; Isabella, Julia and Samuel Akao, New Minas NS; Sophie, Naomi and Ava Bartlett, Bedford, NS.  In England Betty leaves behind her brother, Steve, sister, Millie and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Ron and Bill, sisters, Sheila and Lois and special nephew, Paul.

The family is grateful for the special friendship of  Marg and Gerry Fergusson. We would also like to thank the staff at Elmwood Place for their care of Mom for the past 2 years.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at 1pm, Royal View Church, 218 Clarke Rd, London, ON.
