I loved Tom Hennessy.
This was a man who walked into life telling stories and singing songs.
That was the context for speaking not from the head, but from his heart.
He never put out a concept as absolute truth He was always roaming in the not knowing, not absolutely sure, teasing out the wonderings of himself and others, inviting others to enter into the unknown together.
Tom had an uncanny ability to foster community. With his 100 km walk last year for homeless vets (that raised over $50,000), he invited many people to walk with him for 12 laps around Victoria Park. Everybody was invited. But he never said, “I did it.” We did it together! And when we reminisced about those things, his eyes always lit up and we began to laugh at the funny quirks of our human accomplishments.
Oh what a friend! I miss him. There will never be another like him.

It was a privilege to get to know Tom at the Costco Hearing Aid Centre. We shared a friendship for over a decade that began with our common love of butter tarts. He was a true gentle man that would light up the room with his contagious smile. Tom you leave a big void in this world and there won't be a day that goes by that I won't remember you with fondness and love. Thinking of you, Joyce and family and sending you love. Sending heartfelt condolences, Kathy

Joyce and family
I am so sorry to learn of Tom’s passing
He truly was a remarkable man and the two of you Joyce made a great team
I will never forget his fund raising for veterans housing by walking around Victoria park when he was 100. That Canada Day when he led us all to London Place was inspirational.
I also still remember the little skit you and he did at the Jeanette’s a few years ago…he conceded to you being God. Loved it!
To the family, my condolences you had quite the dad
Take care

My condolences to Tom's family. I met Tom when I became the executive director of the London Distress Centre. He was one of our caring volunteers who worked with us one morning a week answering calls from others in need of a warm and caring voice. I loved working with him. He always spoke of his wife with such respect and adoration. The world was a better place with Tom in it.

My sincere condolences on hearing of the death of Tom. I will miss running into him at the variety store at south end of Bayfield where we would be picking up the Saturday Free Press in the summer time. I remember the neat PE activities that he organized in various venues including the skipping show put on by the students at the old London Gardens--I was there! Great memories. Thank you Tom.

Tom was a beloved member of the Blyth Festival Singers for many years. Tom had a strong tenor voice and enjoyed singing a wide variety of music from Handel's Messiah to leading us in Irish tunes at our choir Christmas parties. He was always at the ready with his baton to fill in for the conductor which was a favourite joke of the choir. He was an inspiration to all of us and will be long remembered as remarkable person. with much love and remembrance - Shelley McPhee Haist

I was so sad to hear of Tom’s passing. He was such a kind soul. My late husband John Vanderhaar from Bayfield Tree Service always enjoyed chatting with Tom at his cottage or around Bayfield. Tom would send a box of chocolates home with John after any tree work, it was just the sweetest thing. John had so much respect for Tom with having served in the war. I’m so honoured to have met him. John passed away June 2023 and now with the passing of Tom, I believe they will connect in Heaven and continue their journey together. I’ll be thinking of your family at this difficult time.

What an amazing man! Tom shared his memories with me of Operation Husky in which my father and uncle had participated. He said they knew something was up but when he flew out from Malta on the morning of July 9th, he was stunned to see the huge armada (over 2000 ships) that was filling up the Mediterranean on its way to Sicily. It gave me a different perspective on the scene. His memory was so intact and clear and he had so many stories to tell. His experience with war made him a champion for peace and goodwill. Thank you Tom for all your many contributions. Yours was a life so well lived. Leslie Smith
