Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 31st, 2016 George Samuel Murphy from Port Aux Basques Newfoundland, at age 59 passed peacefully at University Hospital, London, Ontario. Beloved husband of Shelly Bernard, George leaves behind his daughter Sarah Carnahan (Tom Carnahan) and 2 very beautiful grandchildren Kenneth and Chloe of Cornwall, Ontario – Jason Murphy of Guelph, Ontario – Joshua Murphy (Jessica James) of Courtney, British Columbia. He also leaves behind his step-daughter Jennifer Alderton and his step-grandson Jarrat Bergeron of London, Ontario. His step-son Jarrat was always known as his part time son and he dearly loved these two as his own. He is so sadly missed by his Golden Retriever puppy, Bella Bernard-Murphy “Daddy’s little girl” George is predeceased by his mother Lillian Alice (Matthews) Murphy and his brother John Thomas Murphy (Norma Murphy). He is Survived by his father William C Murphy of Port Aux Basques NL , brother Daniel (Lorraine) Matthews of London, Ontario, sister Bernice Murphy of London Ontario, his brother James (Mary) Murphy, Steven (Karen) Murphy, Paul (Rhonda) Murphy Scott and sister Madonna Murphy all of Port Aux Basques Newfoundland and a large number of nephews and nieces. My gratitude goes out to the doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their wonderful care - to the Organ Transplant Team and "Barb" our Organ Transplant Coordinator who held George's hand through it all.........and to the Josh Field Support Network for the comfort and words of wisdom. Thank you April White without you I could never had gotten through this, your being there was not only my comfort but you gave so much comfort to George's children. I love you all for your prayers and words of kindness, for all of you who have asked how you can help or what I need please know that what I need most now is for everyone to sit down and talk to your families about organ donation and giving the gift of life. Today and in the coming days - please do a random act of kindness for someone in need - Pay it Forward in George's memory. George would give the shirt of his back to someone in need without a second thought and it was one of the reasons I loved him, For those of you in the London area - please consider donating some socks in George's memory. George was the nuts and bolts that helped Bless Their Socks thrive - he was known as the "Sock Man" as he delivered over 10,000 pairs of socks to frontline street level agencies, and he loved it - seeing their smiles and receiving their hugs. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Bless Their Socks so that we may continue our work in George’s memory. Celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at Abundant Life Community Church 640 Grosvenor Street. Visitation from 10am to 11am – service to follow.
