Though Rick and I parted ways many years ago we have always been connected by this incredible bond, our precious daughter, Helen.
Helen always felt a strong need to take care of her dad and to protect him.
She always worried about him and wanted to know that he was okay, even as a young girl.
In 2012 when Rick's health started to fail Helen did what most of us could never do at such a young age, or even ever. She became her dad's sole caregiver, taking him to appointments, looking after him through all kinds of extremely vulnerable situations and giving him a comfortable home throughout. There were times when this was very, very difficult and yet Helen carried on. She did this for two full years, in spite of her own issues and struggles. I have been so proud of her for doing this and I know her dad was truly grateful.
Helen, through all of this your dad has given you so many gifts. Most important of all the strong bond of love you have always had for your dad. And the gift of being able to survive even the most painful and difficult situations.
Helen has her dad's strong wit and passion for knowledge. Her deep love of, and connection to, animals comes from Rick. Like her dad, Helen has a love of music, which goes far beyond average. Some of us have talked about his constant quizzing of who the artist is at any given moment.
From stories, I know that they have shared an abundance of memories with camping trips across parts of North America. With time Helen you will remember those times as well as the many mor funny , weird and silly memories the two of you shared.
Helen, your dad will live on through you and you can always be proud to be his little girl.
I know this is a really difficult time right now, but as many of us have said, I believe your dad was waiting for you. For him to see you in such a wonderful place in your life and to meet Nik. He gave Nik the thumbs up you know.
After all you have gone through your dad was able to let go of his suffering knowing that you have found love and happiness and confident that you have found your way.
As I told you, I believe that your father's last gift is a new direction. You will travel on this new path knowing your dad is no longer suffering and that he will be so happy and proud of you all the way.
You know that I am always here to love and support you.
