ALLAN PLAYFORD

Allan Roy ( Al ) Playford passed away peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre

on August 7, 2017, in his 94th year.  He was pre-deceased by his dearly loved wife

and partner of 66 years, Mary, in 2014 and his brothers Harvey ( Owen Sound )

and Gordon ( St. Catharines ). Al was a very special father and grandfather, a

model and mentor for his children Steve ( Jackie ), Anne ( Rick ) and Tom ( Terryl

Lynne ) A loving and devoted grandfather to Chris ( Iva ), Mike, Paul and James.

A beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Al was a proud and decorated

member of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada serving on the fronts in France and

Italy in the Second World War.  He worked for many years with Canada Customs

before starting a successful consulting business. Born and raised in Owen Sound,

Al loved the outdoors and was a passionate fisherman who knew most every trout

stream in Grey and Bruce. He loved the summers with Mary and the family at the

cottage on Lake Huron near Sauble Beach puttering all day and relaxing in front

of the sunsets. Among his many passions and interests were all sports, business,

politics and nature and an easy conversation on these or any other topics was

always available. Al Playford was a very special individual who was graced with a

full and rewarding life. He will be missed. A special thanks to staff at Parkwood

Veterans Care who cared for Al in his final days.

Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later

date. Donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or the charity of your choice.
