Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Leslie Martin
March 16,1930 - April 24,2023

John was born in East London, within hearing of Bow Bells, making him a cockney, something he was proud of.

He immigrated to Canada in 1956, followed by his wife and 4 children 6 months later.  In Canada he worked for The CBC, leaving to attend York University in the early 1970s. After university he worked for Faberge and Bata.  He married a second time and moved to the USA in 1978, where he worked for the State of New York.  His two children from that marriage live in the USA.  After retiring he moved back to Canada, settling in Ingersoll.  Over the years he was involved in The Kiwanis, The Lunch Bunch, The Senior Centre, and The Canterbury Folk Festival.

He will be missed by his children Sandra Simmons (Derek), Michael, Linda Fernhout, Julia Middleton, Lisa Maher (Tim) and Eric, and by his many grandchildren and great grand children.  He will also be missed by Betty Patience, his good friend and traveling companion.

We want to thank the staff at the Woodstock Hospital for his care during his stay there in November 2022.  We especially want to thank the staff at the Transition Unit at Carescent Care for the patience and compassion they  showed towards John for the 6 months in residence.

John has been cremated, there was no funeral.  A Celebration of Life will be held with his family and friends.
