We met Jim Sr. Through Jim and Sharon when we lived in the Soo. We would get together with Jim and Claire when they would visit the Soo and had some very fun Christmas parties! Jim Sr. Had a great sense of humour and a quiet, laid back way about him. Remembering these times keeps him in our hearts. Our condolences to his family on the loss of such a wonderful person. I am so glad we got to know him. Kerry & John Wisternoff

Pat and I send our sincere condolences to Claire and the family on Jim's passing.
In 1977 Jim hired me and for fourteen years I worked for him as captain on YANKCANUCK.
Our family will always appreciate the opportunity he gave us for a better quality of home life
than most sailors and their families get to experience. Over those years I was able to learn more
about the marine industry, business and engineering from Jim.
Jim was from the 'old school' of engineering and I always considered him an engineer's engineer.

Our sincere condolences to Claire, Jim, Ken, Ron and their families on Jim’s passing.
We have known Jim for over 20 years. He was a great storyteller and a good friend.
I ( Don ) was a fortunate to have spent 20 plus years with Jim in the Kemble & District
Lion’s Club.He was an active and valued member who eagerly participated in club
projects which over the years raised many thousands of dollars to support our 2 local
hospitals, several other local charities and community members who needed a helping
hand. He will be missed!
Rest in peace old friend.

Saddness and loss will overcome us for a long time ahead. I thought this photo of Jim I took not long ago, showed his happy spirit and humour. This is how we remember Jim. Joyful, Mischievous, kind hearted. A great friend who brought such joy and laughter, support and compassion. When in Jim's company he would ask "Did I ever tell you about?" and then the storytelling began -face lighting up in the telling. I think these recollections allowed him to relive those moments, the journeys, the people. Once in awhile he would relate the antics he would get up to as a youth and doing his time at Lakefield Private College always made him chuckle.
Most precious were the times spent with Jim and Claire enjoying the interactions, the love between them. Jim knew he had a great partner, supporter, friend in his wife who was always there to welcome him home from his journeys. I know cuz he told me so more than once.
A Week or so ago he mentioned again how blessed he was with his wife and his boys when we said goodbye and again he said the sentiments "I have had a really good life". Both himself and his family made it so.
Like the waters ripple on the lakes forever our love and loss will ripple through our hearts for a very long time.

Our visits with Uncle Jim were always enjoyable and memorable. He put a smile on our faces and reminded us so much of my Mom, his sister, with his easy going nature and quick to laugh personality. His story telling was always interesting and he seemed to come up with different material each time we saw him. We love him and he will be sorely missed.

Jim was an integral part of my life growing up in Sault Ste. Marie. He was always fun to be with, quick to laugh, and endlessly kind and generous. He was one of my Dad’s dearest friends - the trust, loyalty and humour they shared was wonderful. Sending my love and condolences to Claire and “the boys”. Tammy

I was a neighbor of Jim and Claires when they lived on Meadow Park Crescent, and have known them since the 80's. I can remember coming home from work during some pretty nasty Sault Ste. Marie storms only to find that Jim had blown out my driveway.
It was just last summer that we got to visit with Jim and Claire and get caught up. Jim loved to tell stories of the history of his life while his eyes lit up and twinkled. It was very obvious that he had a life well lived. I feel privileged to be able to have called him friend. Rest in peace sweet man. You will be missed.
