Understanding of Coming and Going by Chris Hutchinson (undated)
Coming into cognitive thought once more,
But what is this world that's wrought
From myriad atoms of carbon bases
That coalesce into form we call Earth.
Also into form we call a living body
The self enters, and then is captured.
Grows, understands the world as such,
Then leaves, waits, enters once again.
Slowly coming into cognizance of self.
Understanding where we come and then to go.
Over time, as measured in this standard
Of learning through life and interaction.
In the other form we call the soul,
we have learned that we can make
Anything our self can ever want,
for time, the illusion, does not exist.

Cousin Chris as I remember him was always part of my family growing up. We looked forward to his visits and stories. He had a calming affect and would sometimes get philosophical on various topics.
A kind soul that will be missed.

For me, January represents a month of loss. I lost both my parents in this month, ended a significant relationship by choice, and now the transition of Christopher, and with it, a sense of profound loss and melancholy.
Although I have known Christopher for a relatively short time, the moments spent with him are memorable. He was a humble, loving man with a brilliant mind coupled with a wealth of education and life experience.
As a result of his failing health, I regret not always having had the opportunity to visit him as often as I should have but in better days, I drove him to Goderich on a lovely warm and sunny afternoon. It was an opportunity to hear the wisdom that he garnered over the years from personal experience as well as that from our Beloved Order.
Since his passing, I am ever aware of his presence in my heart and mind, and when my outer self is quieted, the sadness is deeply felt within.
May we meet again across the veil, Brother Christopher and may you always rest in peace.
Thank you for your service to Humanity, forever etched in the Book of Life.

Stephen and I were fortunate to get to know Chris a little during his many trips to Owen Sound. He was always such good company, possessing a wide range of knowledge and life experiences;. a superb storyteller who could talk about almost anything! And as someone already mentioned, often with that mischievous twinkle in his eye. But Chris also had a talent for listening. A rare gift indeed.
We are so sorry to hear of his passing.
Sending love.

My brief memories of Chris Hutchinson go back to my first few months when I was a member of Cosmos Pronaos in year 2015.
I was witness to the extraordinary development of Frater Jeremy as the Guardian for Cosmos Pronaos. It was so clear to me and I am certain noticed by other Fraters and Sorores that Frater Chris had trained Frater Jeremy to deliver the role of Guardian regarding impeccable Rosicrucian work for the few years that Frater Jeremy carried the role of Cosmos Pronaos Guardian so well.
I recall how Frater Chris ensured the stewardship at every Cosmos Pronaos in preparation of the Lodge Meeting Hall for the early set up and refreshments for the Rosicrucians (Visitors and Members) on every Pronaos occasion.
I remember the conversations with Frater Chris in our pre Convocation information time and our rides together to take Frater Chris back to his home in post Convocation time and what I learned from his answers to my questions.
I will never forget Chris Hutchinson and how he modelled a true Rosicrucian Member.

Christopher was a lovely person and an “old school” gentleman. I remember his sense of humour, and his chuckle. He had a way of making you feel at ease. His knowledge on a wide variety of subjects was impressive, but he was always humble. While I only knew Chris for a few years, it was a great privilege to know him. I especially enjoyed hearing about his nursing days, including a story about putting on a Shakespeare play for the residents. My sincere condolences to Chris’ family.

I had the opportunity to see a wonderful side of Chris as we were both students of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC and had met several times over the years at special events. Chris had the unique talent of silently accomplishing things so very humbly that it was only after he was done, did you realize what he had done. Things just worked out alright. He never drew any attention to himself. This is the hallmark of someone who understood the true meaning of service to others. I am blessed to have known him.

Chris, I so appreciate the chats we had and the friendship one instantly felt when with you. It was most impressive to visit you in your final days and find you jovial and at peace, fully aware of what lay just ahead. You learned so much from life and you gave so much to life! What great lessons you taught in your quiet way. Well done! Now, enjoy the new awakening you are entering into! We will miss you while others will be welcoming you!

While my friendship with Chris was brief he made an impression. Chris was a natural teacher and he was kind and generous with his knowledge. He fiercely loved his family, Ingrid, Zara and Caelan. When he spoke of them his admiration and respect for them was evident. I regret not having more of an opportunity to speak, share and learn from Chris. He was deeply spiritual and I know that he is on his journey to peace and joy.

Here is a moment from Chris’s boyhood that he shared one afternoon at the hospital. It is a simple moment, yet so deeply Chris. Alas, it can not help missing that spark of faery in the retelling that so often showed up in Chris’s eyes and in his kind and many nuanced voice—it is not just the accent that is missing!
When he was a boy, I’m guessing between 10 and twelve years old, he had a place he liked to go to off on his own. He was making his way through the bracken and loose rock on the way there when he felt someone following him. He played a bit of a cat and mouse game before finding another boy he’d never seen before. Chris invited the boy into the hideout he had built. The boys ate wrinkled winter apples together and never saw each other there again.
It was so like the Chris I knew years later to welcome anyone graciously and to share what he had. It was also like Chris to catch the attention of and spend an hour with a boy no one else had ever met.
When I think of Chris, I can not help but think of William Yeats’ poem “The Stolen Child.” Chris was very much of and in this world, but his experiences of this world shone and shimmered around the edges.
Chris will be deeply missed at Cosmos Pronaos, where I had the privilege of meeting him.
