Christopher in his Buddha philosopher's pose in June 2023. Ingrid was moving his things over from his apartment and he was happy with what made Kensington Village feel more like home.
Dori helped to discover some of his treasures, and we woke Chris up one night to show him we found his grandfather's shepherd's crook, two pocket watches from his grandparents and other special little objects. His eyes filled with tears, he was so delighted since he thought these precious objects had been lost.
I knew Chris, in person , best in the early years of his relationship with Ingrid, & then when Zara was a baby. I recall vividly sitting & listening to him enthusiastically telling stories of his interactions with various patients with whom he worked, showing clearly his caring and devotion to those he tried to help.
In those years, Psychiatry held no interest for me, and yet I wonder, if his stories are what planted the seeds that later spouted to lead me into the field of Psychiatry, as my career choice. It is quite possible!
The world has lost a very sweet, caring, compassionate man. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Pictures of my dad with his grandson Caelan. In the restaurant scene, Caelan opened his dad's birthday card from Papa Chris, and as the money spilled out, Caelan gleefully cried, "Money!!!" which made my dad grin.
Dad and my partner Adam in Owen Sound, and then two lovely group shots with my dad, Bryan Young, my partner, and my mother--everyone decided to strike a pose á la The Thinker--all taken in May 2019.
The colour photo is with his sister Susan, her husband Roy and Mary Gray. At castle Loma in Toronto we hen his Susan came to visit.
Black and white photo is Susan and Roy’s wedding. Christopher is in the back row beside his mother.
Cousin Christopher was a strong presence and gentle witness to my life since 1957. I will always be grateful for his love. He was supportive, caring and ready to help if the Gray family needed support whether it was washing dishes, preparing a meal or providing advice to solve life’s challenges. He once told me his fool-proof method of choosing lottery numbers by squinting his eyes. I tried it & it didn’t work. I told him & he gently smiled & said try a little harder, it will work!
The photo was taken in March of this year following his accident when he was in rehabilitation. Sister Susan & I visited Chris, he was so appreciative telling us all sorts of funny tales. Truly a one-of-kind gentle loving soul. Will love you forever - cousin Jan.
I will always remember Christopher as a great story teller. He was interested in so many things. I especially remember his visits to our home in Weston, when he would come for dinner and would tell us about fortune tellers, reincarnation, or other topics that would cause my Mother to roll her eyes. I was always fascinated by his stories!
In 2015, my husband Michael and I had a great visit with him when we lived in Owen Sound. We went out to the Frog Pond for coffee and had some laughs. Christopher was always fun to spend time with.
Christopher is on the Sydenham River in Owen Sound. He was an expert at paddling a kayak! This photo is from October, 2016.
Because this craft is so low, it was quite a chore to get him in and out of the boat! He loved being on the river while we canoed behind him--such a beautiful memory. ~ Ingrid and Bryan
