Obituary of Kenneth John Payne

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

After a short and fierce battle with his health, Ken Payne passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 18.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Sandy Payne; his children Tammy Nichols (Leonard), Scott Payne (Penny), Cindy Payne (Justin) and Kerri McDonald and Jennifer McDonald (Steve). Ken was the proud grandpa to his 17 grandchildren, Tyler, Maggie, Zachary, Jackson, Joe, Victoria, Hailey, Riley, Hayden, Brittany, Abbey, Emerson, Blake, Maddy, Charlotte, Sadie and Norah who will miss their grandpa so deeply. Every day Ken shared his wisdom with his grandchildren which helped shape them into the kind and caring people they are today.

He started working when he was 8 years old delivering bread, and did not stop working. He delivered newspapers and worked at Fleet way 40 Bowling Alley before embarking on a 42 year career with H J Jones Printing & Lithographing.

Ken had a home business, Ski View Promotions that founded and published the magazine, the Byron Connection which later grew to be the Forest City Connection.

Ken touched so many lives. Joining in 1977, Ken served as an active member of the Optimist Club of Byron for almost 50 years. Through this, he was a founding member of the Byron Optimist Sports Complex, which carried the beat of his heart.

Ken was always in the community, whether coaching sports, selling his woodworking at the market, watching or helping his grandchildren, or volunteering with the Optimists or with Wellspring Cancer Support Centre.  He was also a member of the Aylmer Youth Horseshoe Club and proudly held a leadership role with their youth program.

Ken will be dearly missed by many and has left a void that will be hard to fill.

A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held Friday, November 22, 1:00 - 4:00 pm with words of remembrance at 2:00 pm at St. Anne's Parish Hall 1344 Commissioners Rd. W. (Byron), London.
