Obituary of Norman Aubrey Smits

Norman Aubrey Smits
June 12, 1959 – December 3, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Norm Smits, who passed away December 3^rd at the age of 66. Norm leaves behind his 3 daughters, Norinda (Chris), Erin (Scott) and Sherry (Joe), his children’s mother Brinda Muth, along with grandchildren Michael, Nadia, Ella, Reed, Claire and Quinn and a great granddaughter, Haisley. He will be missed greatly by his dear friend Fern.

Norm was the sole owner and operator of Norm’s Fast Lube and Auto Detailing, in the Tibor Auto Mall in Port Elgin, where he proudly served the community of Saugeen Shores and beyond for the last 10 years. We would like to thank the valued customers for their loyalty throughout the years contributing to the success of the business and essentially his “Pride and Joy”.

Norm was born June 12, 1959 in Sydney, Nova Scotia to his parents Gradus and Rhodena Smits (predeceased). Brother to Graham (Cathy) McClean of Owen Sound, Barbara (Louis) MacDonald (both predeceased) of Nova Scotia and Patricia (Darryl) Sutherland of Nova Scotia.

Norm will forever be remembered for his love of music, the Boston Bruins, and jam sessions with his friends and guitars. His humor was one of kind, although not always appreciated, a big part of who he was. He enjoyed making people smile, if not laugh. He would go out of his way to help anyone and wore his heart on his sleeve.

A celebration of life will be held at the Tara Legion on Sunday, December 15th, 2024 from 2 to 6 pm.
