Obituary of Wolfgang Mueller

MUELLER, Wolfgang- In loving memory of Wolfgang Mueller who died peacefully in the early morning on Monday, January 4, 2016 at LHSC-University Hospital in London, Ontario. Wolfgang is survived by his loving wife Sonja of 43 years and their son, Marc, and is also survived by his son Gerrit, and predeceased by his son Gunnar. Lovingly remembered by close family friend, Denise Cardinal-Murray, and by his relatives and friends. Originally from Germany, Wolfgang came to Canada in 1960 and soon was hired at Northern Telecom until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed music, gardening, traveling and cooking, but his main passion was sports such as soccer, tennis and, of course, gymnastics, which for him was “a way of life”. His love for gymnastics started in Germany as a youngster, and he competed there until 1957. Once in Canada, Wolfgang continued his love of gymnastics by coaching at the German-Canadian Club until 1972. He then instructed four P.U.C. Gymnastics classes at the Byron Community Centre, as well as children’s classes, Parents and Tots and a Ladies’ Exercise group. By 1975, Wolfgang co-founded London Gymkips, with both recreational and competitive gymnasts. He was Head Coach until his resignation in 1979. He continued to be involved with the sport through his popular P.U.C. classes at the Byron Community Centre, where the Byron Optimist Club generously donated funds towards the purchase of gymnastic equipment in 1979. In Wolfgang’s later years, when many of his young gymnasts had grown into wonderful adults, some with children of their own now, he was very proud of their past and present accomplishments. Wolfgang was a coach that dared to make a difference, and by doing so, he made a positive difference in their lives. At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial.
