It was only this morning that I learned about Bruce's death almost a year ago when my son Alex, who also knew "Uncle Bruce," noticed it by accident. Bruce and I had a friendship that went back to Orchard Park elementary school. To Bruce I owe my rescue from loneliness when I was a young teenager. Later we became close friends and, today, my mind is flooded with memories of so many good times, so many laughs, so many shared friends and interests. I'm so sorry I missed you, man. Say hi to our favorite drummer, Keith Moon. Rock on... Nick Hudson

I met Bruce when we were both Keg waiters in the late 1970’s. We shared a slightly twisted humour and had all kinds of fun on the job. I was in dental school at the time and Bruce’s dad, Wes, was our dean...the best that the Western Dental faculty ever had! I had always hoped to reconnect with Bruce but am so happy at the impact he obviously had on so many students and friends. Rest In Peace Bruce.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute for such a wonderful person. What a heartbreaking loss. Our heartfelt condolences to Marion, her family, and the Dunn family. Sending love and warm thoughts out to the many students, staff, and friends who were inspired by Mr. Dunn’s passion for the arts and education over the years. We will always remember the amazing performances where the members of CHOMP had the opportunity to shine in front of many large audiences. Bruce was a mentor and friend who helped me to learn and grow in the earlier part of my career as a teacher at Chippewa Public School. I am thankful for his never-ending support in difficult times. I will miss Bruce’s laughter and gift as a storyteller. In recent years, our family enjoyed a special evening with Bruce and Marion where he shared his love of drumming with our daughters. Seeing Bruce’s joy while performing sparked a greater interest in experimenting with musical instruments that endures to this day. I am honoured and blessed to have known one of the kindest Chippewa Cheetahs of all time. Sincerely, Jeremie Roselle

What a heartfelt loss to all of us who came to know and love Brucey. Such a kind, caring man who could always make your days brighter with his smile, laughable stories, talents of all sorts and his delicious teeny, tiny Christmas shortbread cookies. Mr. Dunn......a forever cherished member of the Chippewa family; a dedicated and truly loved teacher and an amazing colleague that I have known since his ponytail and big green pickup truck days. I will miss you, Brucey, especially your friendly greeting every time we met, ("Mz. LAmieux, Mz. LAmieux"), that continues to resonate in my head. May the wonderful memories of Bruce give us all peace and comfort.
Sharing in your sorrow Marion, my sincere condolences and prayers go out to you and Bruce's family. How fortunate to have had such a beautiful person permeate the lives of so many; a wonderful friend that I will never forget. Sincerely, Dian

My heart was deeply saddened to learn of Bruce’s passing. He was a terrific colleague and friend. Bruce and I were VP’s in the same family of schools for years. We often sat together at meetings engaged in off task behaviours; passing notes, whispering when others’ were speaking and laughing when we were not suppose to. We finally made a deal not to sit together at meetings as we behaved as two naughty children together. I loved his smile, his laugh, his heartfelt sharing, his love of family, his love for Marion, his love for Olive (I would tease him about the money he spent on doggie daycare), his love of music, his love for students, his love of life, his passion for the arts and his heartfelt hugs. He truly was a great human being. The world is a better place because of Bruce’s influence. He was a rich blessing to our lives. I am grateful. I extend my humble condolences to his family.
Most sincerely, Lorraine (Mention) Brown

What a perfect tribute to such a great man! Working with Bruce was an absolute pleasure, personally and professionally. His unyielding support, kindness and patience, with the students at Lord Elgin and me, will never be forgotten. Echoing what has been said by so many already, the laughter that accompanied every exchange with him is what I will cherish most. My students would light up in anticipation of the antics they knew would ensue when he visited our classroom. Letting us pierce his ears with magnets during a science lesson, his jaw-dropping drum solo at the talent show, watching him, without hesitation, clean up the “aftermath” of a student who ate too much on a trip to Mandarin, the shortbread cookies at Christmas, even after he retired, all of us pretending we didn’t know Marion was behind so many of the incredible things he did……Not only was he amazing educator and administor, he was an amazing person and friend. I take comfort in the fact he lived life big and to its fullest. He was SO loved. He changed lives. I look forward to toasting him and his legacy at the Alibi! Thank you, Bruce!

Mr Dunn was my grade 8 teacher at Chippewa, but way before that he was present as a strong force of good in my life. I was going some tough times, and he reached out and supported me; believed in me. The day I finally walked into his class as his student was one of my best memories of that school.
I cannot begin to describe the impact Bruce had on me; helping me become the person I am today. I am forever grateful for the love and support he showed not only me, but all students.
My deepest condolences,

I had the privilege of teaching with Bruce at Woodland Heights PS for a few years in the early 2000's. He was my vice principal and mentor. Many a morning I would arrive to the sound of the Timbre Wolves rehearsing in the music room and often I would sit in and watch the absolute joy on the faces of the kids ... And his infectious smile when the rhythm was perfect. Bruce invited myself and my husband to a gig at the Wortley Roadhouse where he was playing with Three Blind Mice. I said we would come if they played "Let It Ride" by BTO. Bruce said" oh man that's the drum solo with the triplets". I said "yep". So we went and he NAILED it of course!. Bruce was truly a remarkable person with so many gifts that he shared so effortlessly. He will be remembered with a smile and much joy in my heart... And every time I hear "Let It Ride".
Many heartfelt condolences to Marion and all of Bruce's family.
Thank you for everything Bruce.

Bruce is deeply missed by Donna Simpson and Mickey Simpson, his neighbors for 25 years. It’s hard to fathom he’s gone, and we are thinking of Marion, his partner, and Wes, his dad, with great sympathy. We’ll miss over-the-fence conversations, the sound of a snow shovel on pavement as the first snowflakes flutter down, and delicious tiny shortbread cookies every Christmas, made using Bruce’s grandmother’s cookie cutters from her recipe, and delivered with a cheery smile. Poodle the ginger cat misses Bruce’s scrubbies and scritches and still sits on his porch every day, waiting for him to come home. Love and sympathy to Bruce’s family; know that he made a deep impact on everyone he met.

I am saddened beyond words to hear that Bruce has passed. I have lived opposite Bruce for 20 years and we shared a love of dogs. He and Olive welcomed me when I bought my house - he made me feel like I was home and in the right place. I can’t imagine an Empress without Bruce.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Bruce’s passing. We were good friends in high school, amd shared so many good times singing in Freds Folk, acting in plays, going to England with the travel club, camping trips, and just having fun. He had an amazing sense of humour, and when I think of him it will be with a smile on my face. Rest In Peace Bruce...you will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Bruce. Although I never worked with him directly, I always appreciated his approachability, his sense of humor and his positive perspective whenever I attended TVDSB functions. I did get to see his 'pail percussion' group in action and loved the fact that everyone - Bruce, the students, the audience - were having fun and caught up in the magic of the moment. - K. Waud

It is with deepest sadness that I read about Bruce's passing. He was such an energetic, positive and fun-loving teacher and person. He was a great colleague to work with when I started my teaching career at Chippewa Public School, and a great friend to all he met. He was such a positive influence to the children he taught, and perhaps more importantly, to the children who benefitted from the myriad of extra-curricular activities that he developed or supported with his time and effort. There are no greater gifts to give than time and caring, and Bruce gave generously.
Though I moved on to a new career and a new area, I had the good fortune to bump into Bruce and Marion on occasion when visiting London, and enjoyed our too brief catch up conversations. Bruce was always a welcome sight, and a reminder of great times.
Kathie and I wish to express our sympathies to Marion and Bruce's family and friends in what must be a very difficult time. While we mourn his loss, we will celebrate his kindness, compassion, energy and humour. We count ourselves fortunate to have known Bruce, and I can sincerely say, I am better for my experience with him.

Mary and I lost touch with Bruce over the years. We first met him approximately 25 years ago and very much enjoyed his upbeat demeanor and dry wit. At the time we were friends but drifted apart as our lives took us in different directions. Our sincere condolences to all who love Bruce - we know he will be missed very much.

Your humour was second to none and you were always able to find the joy in each day. Sharing laughs, lending an ear, or simply opening the candy jar in your office were ways you helped me on so many occasions at Lord Elgin. You were an amazing and supportive administrator. The way you connected to students was pure magic! I hope the fondest of memories of you will help Marion and your family in the coming days and beyond. You will be missed.

We met Bruce at Maple Lake in Haliburton after he bought his cottage there. He was always friendly, and happy being there, as were we. He was a good neighbour; one time he assisted some friends putting in a dock at Laurel's rental cottage. It was a tough job, and no longer necessary as the current dock stays in permanently. But Bruce was helpful, friendly and he got to know Carl quite well. He also came to store his boat in our garage. In short once he came to Haliburton, he befriended us all, and as he did so we also came to know Marion. They both became an important part of our little community up there. We last saw Bruce this summer. He was quiet and we sensed he was unwell. Then we learned he was seriously ill. Marion has been a very caring partner. She kept us all informed as we worried. It is shocking that he has died so young and we will miss him a lot.

You were always there to share words of wisdom, advice and even a hug when it was needed. Your love of life, Marion, dogs, the cottage and all tiny humans shone through always in your sense of humour and joy.
You were my administrator during some of my most challenging times and always knew just what to say and always understood.
You surely deserved many more years of retirement but I know that you've found a spot by a lake surrounded by 4 legged friends and a band to jam with up there in heaven. You will never be forgotten and your legacy lives on in all those lives you have touched.
My condolences to Marion and family.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Marion, her family and the Dunn family at this very sad time. Bruce was a kind and generous person who always gave his very best. His commitment to his students was exemplary. He shared his passion for music with both students and staff and we have very fond memories of his many garbage pail drumming ensembles. He brought great energy and enthusiasm to his schools as both a teacher and an administrator.
Bruce was a loyal friend and colleague who was respected by all. He shared a wonderful life with Marion and together they brought much joy and happiness to family and friends. Bruce truly made such a difference in the lives of so many.

My fondest memories of Bruce were of him sitting on the front porch of his home with a glass of red wine, watching over the neighbourhood. On one or more occasion, I would join him! Or decorating his home for Halloween, the holiday he loved so much. He always had time for a quick chat, to lend a listening ear or provide words of wisdom. But his most endearing trait was his uncanny knack of knowing when you needed some words of encouragement, without even knowing the situation. For that I will be forever grateful. I will miss my neighbour, my friend.
